Joel Hatstat is an audio engineer, mastering engineer, producer, musician, and educator with more than two decades of experience in the global music industry. Based in Athens, Georgia, he has worked across a wide range of music, podcast, film, and multimedia projects, developing a reputation for detailed listening, creative problem solving, and helping artists realize the full potential of their work.

His credits include editing and mixing for the Huberman Lab Podcast; mastering work for country artist Gavin Adcock; a songwriting credit in the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise; and mixing and mastering projects for Jeff Rosenstock, Bit Brigade, and No Party for Cao Dong, and many others. His work has also received international recognition, including a Taiwanese Golden Melody Award nomination for Best Album Recording.

His film and soundtrack credits include projects for Chispa House, the Freeman Vines documentary, the Taiwanese chart-topping video game Devotion, and Maserati’s 87-minute soundtrack for the film Prowler.

Joel is also a longtime member of the influential Athens math-rock band Cinemechanica, with whom he has recorded, toured, and performed since the early 2000s. His experience as both an artist and an engineer gives him a practical understanding of the recording process from every side of the studio.

In addition to his work at Tweed Recording, Joel teaches music production at the University of Georgia. His approach to education emphasizes critical listening, technical fundamentals, industry adaptability, and the importance of creating an environment in which students and artists can perform at their best.
